Curatorial practice
My curatorial projects are focused on the theme of identity, conceived toward the external world but also as an internal, reflexive, private process. It´s interesting to appreciate the changes that suffered traditional genres such as the landscape, now it has given freedom to emerging artists that want to affirm an identity sourced by the coding of bad painting, fauvism, video and photography. To summarize, it escapes from the commonplaces and the exotic vision of the island. The parallelism between poetics and regions and the artists approach to topics like communication, identity, memory through landscape is the main topic of my current studies.
The relationship between literature and scenery as gateways to a local identity that has its origins in Caribbean it is a theme to which I, as a curator and teacher, have always attached great value. I have written works of criticism and fiction and carried out exhibitions about the scenery in relation to local identity, international aesthetics, Caribbean-ness and urban-ness, analyzing its evolution.
